Soap Folk’s own superstar, Danny, who looks after our online customers orders, loves a good craft project. Along with making her own wrapping paper - Danny's greener Christmas challenge, she made these beautiful stars which we have used to decorate the Soapery. Here she shares her instructions on how to make these eight- sided origami stars from paper scraps.
They take a little practice and patience, however the results are definitely worth it.
You’ll need…
X 8 squares of scrap paper of the same size. The stars shown here measure 8cmx8cm
A length of twine for hanging
Step 1 - Lay 1 square colour side down so its a diamond
Step 2 - Fold in half
Unfold and fold each half into the centre
Rotate 180 degrees. Your paper should now look like a kite shape
Fold the left hand side of the top white triangle up to meet the patterned edge.
Fold the last bit of white triangle in half to meet the patterned edge or the last triangle.
Open the last triangle you folded and the bottom left triangle. Turnover.
Fold the top over so the two edge lines meet and the top line is horizantal, then flatten.
Turn over and turn 180 degrees. Fold in the left flap and fold in the edge. Unfold the left flap. Fold in the right edge and fold up the bottom.
Now your paper should resemble a sail
Repeat on the other 7 squares
With 8 pieces completed, it’s now time to assemble! Take your first 2 pieces. Open the right flap on 1 piece and slot the other triangle under the remaining flap. 
Fold the open flap into the back of the slotted triangle
Repeat for each of your pre-formed sails.
You'll begin to see a star shape form
When you get to the last one, gently bring the first sail to the front and work this in the exact same way as all the previous sail
You’re finished! And now have a beautiful sustainable homemade decoration using up scraps from home
